Not out of the box. The Mudita Kompakt texts over SMS and MMS, with no RCS. It lets you install apps, and one owner on Mudita’s forum has run OpenBubbles on it to get iMessage, with a Mac behind it. With Decaf, iMessage stays on at home, on your Mac, and the texts that matter reach the Kompakt as SMS, with a way to reply.
The Kompakt is an e-ink phone running MuditaOS K, built on Android without Google. Texts go over SMS and MMS; Mudita said in July 2026 that RCS isn’t supported and isn’t planned (Mudita forum). Since July 2025 you can install apps of your own through Mudita’s desktop app, over USB (Mudita).
On Mudita’s forum, one owner has iMessage on the Kompakt through OpenBubbles, an Android app that signs the phone in to iMessage as if it were an Apple device, set up with a Mac, or with a hosted relay for a monthly fee (Mudita forum). In the same thread, another owner’s number dropped off iMessage an hour or two after the SIM left the iPhone. Mudita says nothing official about iMessage, and Apple has closed workarounds like this before.
Decaf is a calm iMessage Mac app that relays time-sensitive and important texts to a second phone. Your iPhone keeps your main number and stays home, plugged in. The Mudita Kompakt gets a number of its own. Decaf, on your Mac, texts the Mudita Kompakt when something can’t wait; the rest waits for when you sit down.
You answer in the same thread. Before a reply is relayed, Decaf asks for confirmation, and it goes out from your main number, as if you had typed it on your Mac. Your group chats stay where they are.
